The Residency Lab
Mentorship Deep Dive (Session 2, Part 3: Components of CARE Framework) 2024-2025
The last part of the Mentorship Deep Dive session 2 features Dr. Didi Watts, co-founder of the Watts of Power Foundation, presenting her Components of CARE framework and a comprehensive teacher residency model designed to develop equity-centered, sustainable educators, particularly increasing the pipeline of Black male teachers. She explains how mentorship, co-teaching, holistic supports (including financial literacy, coaching, therapy, and housing), and intentional mentor selection are embedded throughout the residency to support both teacher effectiveness and long-term retention. The session emphasizes care as a foundational practice, modeled through relationships, dialogue, and affirmation, to transform classrooms, schools, and educational systems.
