The Residency Lab

Mentorship Deep Dive (Session 4, Part 2: Selecting and Sustaining Mentors) 2024-2025

To conclude the Mentorship Focused Deep Dive Series, the Lab welcomed again Dr. Didi Watts presenting how her Components of CARE framework guides the intentional selection and preparation of mentor teachers in equity-centered teacher residency programs. Dr. Watts explains how culturally responsive mentorship, authentic partnerships, and equitable recruitment practices are essential for building sustainable, justice-oriented residency models, especially those supporting Black educators. Throughout the session, participants are prompted to reflect on their own programs, identify actionable changes, and commit to specific next steps that advance equity while supporting mentor and resident well-being.
