The Residency Lab

Power Up - Loyola Marymount - Centering Resident Experiences - February 12, 2024

The Power Up 2 session on February 12, 2024 spotlighted the partnership between Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC Schools) and Loyola Marymount University (LMU), focused on an equity-centered teacher residency program led by Dr. Sarah Seinfeld. In this video, Dr. Seinfeld shares action research examining how standardized testing creates barriers for teacher candidates of color. She describes data-driven supports, such as protected study time, financial resources, and a testing anxiety support group, designed to address these challenges. The presentation also emphasizes how elevating candidate voices, grounding the work in Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and focusing on mindset and relational support contribute to higher exam pass rates and more effective pathways into the teaching profession.
